AXIS OS 13 and Genetec Security Center: What to Know Before Updating Cameras

Changes introduced in Axis camera operating system AXIS OS 13 affect how cameras are added to and configured in Genetec Security Center. Before updating, partners should check two key points: whether the correct driver pack is available for their Security Center version and whether camera passwords meet the new requirements.

1. Check the Genetec driver pack

For Axis cameras to work correctly with Genetec Security Center, the driver pack must match the specific Security Center version in use.

The compatibility information provided by Genetec is as follows:

Genetec Security Center versionRequired driver pack
5.1414.3
5.1313.7
5.1212.12
5.1111.16
5.1010.22
5.9 and earlier versions that have reached end of lifeNot supported

Important: Before updating, check not only your Security Center version but also whether the required driver pack is available. Check its availability in the Genetec TechDoc Hub.

2. AXIS OS 13 introduces stricter password requirements

AXIS OS 13 introduces stricter requirements for new or modified user passwords. If a manually entered password does not meet the requirements of the relevant profile, the system will reject it. This does not, in itself, mean that the camera will stop working.

The requirements depend on the selected password profile:

  • Profile 1: at least 15 characters.

  • Profile 2: at least 12 characters, including a number, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a special character.

If you enter passwords manually, make sure they meet the relevant requirements before making configuration changes.

Genetec states that the Generate new password and Password rotation functions are compatible with AXIS OS 13. Therefore, if these functions are already in use, there is no need to automatically abandon this approach to password management.

Further information about the requirements and changes is available in the official Axis AXIS OS documentation.

3. One more check: HTTPS connectivity

After a factory reset, AXIS OS 13 uses HTTPS by default instead of HTTP. When adding such a camera to Genetec Security Center, TCP port 443 must be accessible between the Security Center server and the camera.

When an existing camera is upgraded from AXIS OS 12 to AXIS OS 13, its previous configuration is preserved. Therefore, this type of upgrade does not necessarily mean that the connection settings will need to be changed.

What should partners check before updating?

  1. Identify the Genetec Security Center version in use.

  2. Check the availability and compatibility of the corresponding driver pack.

  3. Make sure new or modified passwords meet the AXIS OS 13 requirements.

  4. Check HTTPS connectivity and the availability of TCP port 443, especially when adding new cameras or cameras that have been reset to factory settings.

For partners: Check these requirements before planning an update and review the latest information in the Genetec technical documentation. This will help identify potential compatibility and configuration issues in advance.
