Ecoservice, one of the largest waste management companies based in Gariūnai, Vilnius, has taken a significant step to enhance site safety by installing an innovative MOBOTIX AG fire surveillance system — the first of its kind in the Baltic States.

In waste management facilities where packaging, glass, wood, and construction waste are processed, the risk of fire is considerable. To mitigate these risks, Ecoservice has implemented a modern system comprising 16 cameras that monitor the entire area 24/7.

This system not only captures live footage but also utilizes thermal analysis to detect hazardous heat changes promptly. Mindaugas Šeštokas, Ecoservice's Production Manager, explains:

"The cameras are of two types: one part transmits live images to assist in managing daily processes, and the other is a thermal camera that analyzes temperature changes and can timely warn of a potential fire."

A key advantage of the system is its ability to distinguish between the heat emitted by vehicle exhaust gases and actual fires, thereby reducing the number of false alarms. This allows security personnel to respond more effectively to genuine threats.

All thermal cameras are connected to a central control panel, enabling real-time monitoring of the entire area. If a fire source is detected, the system automatically sends notifications to the responsible individuals' phones, and the security service receives a live video feed. Šeštokas notes: "We conducted real tests—ignited a flame, and the system detected it instantly. This demonstrates its high reliability."

Additionally, the MOBOTIX camera system is entirely independent—if electricity or communication is disrupted, each camera operates separately, ensuring there are no "blind spots."

One of the system's greatest strengths is its compliance with the stringent European Union EN-54 fire safety requirements. This means it can be officially connected to the fire alarm system and meets all fire protection standards. Irmantas Bankauskas, Director of ALTAS IT Lithuania, the security solutions company that installed the system, emphasizes the highest level of cybersecurity: "This equipment ensures data protection in accordance with the latest EU regulations, including the NIS2 directive."

This innovative system not only helps prevent fires but also reduces operational costs, as the surveillance cameras have integrated software functions that minimize the need for additional equipment. Moreover, the entire monitoring system is user-friendly—footage from all cameras can be viewed in real-time not only on the central control room screen but also on mobile phones or other devices, allowing both managers and operational staff to monitor the security situation on-site at any time. Šeštokas concludes:

"With this innovation, we feel significantly safer—knowing that nothing will go unnoticed."
